Our traditional presses are built to last and should be regarded as a long-term investment – our first presses, sold in 1984, are still giving good service. As a result of a constructive dialogue between the manufacturers and ourselves, we have developed durable presses that we are proud to sell. Listed below are answers to some questions customers have asked us about our traditional presses, which you may find helpful:
- Why use cast iron? Cast iron is strong, rigid and durable.
- Why not use steel or plastic instead? Steel is acceptable for structural components, but is easily dented or scratched. Once the protective coating is damaged, rust will spread under the paint causing further flaking, damage and contamination of the juice. Plastic is not durable and will become brittle with time and is likely to crack.
-
Are these machines safe for food use? Yes. The oven baked polyester coating covering the metal parts of the press meets the most stringent British and European safety standard (the EN71 low-toxicity toy standard). The wood is treated with a food compatible varnish. All contact parts are easily cleaned with fresh water after use.
- Where does the wood come from? The wood used in the construction of these machines comes from carefully managed, sustainable European plantation woodlands.
As a result of our passion for making the most of fruit, our long-term experience, and helpful suggestions from customers, we have sought, tested and added subsequent purpose-built equipment to complement our range, for example, the Centrifugal Mill, Pasteuriser, Fruit Steamer, Fruit & Vegetable Drier.
The latest, exciting additions to our product range have been the pruning and harvesting aids, available to view in Caring for your Fruit Garden.
It should go without saying, therefore, that if you have any questions about any of the products we supply, or if you are trying to source a fruit related product that we do not currently offer, please do not hesitate to contact us.
