Tripod Ladders
These light, stable, aluminium tripod ladders are suitable for all types of orchard work, giving access right into the crown of fruit trees.
They are ideal for pruning; for hand picking apples and pears for storage and for the harvesting of softer fruit such as plums, damsons and cherries. Unlike the traditional 'A-frame' orchard ladder design, you can lean over the top or rest a picking basket on the top.
Additional uses of these super-stable tripod ladders include decorating, gutter clearing and even changing hard-to-access light bulbs.
The ladders come in 4 sizes ranging from 6 to 12 feet (1.8 to 3.6 metres). They are very light and very strong; made of hand welded, extruded aluminium and have no rivets to work loose. The wide base, tripod design, clawed anti-slip feet and double rungs make this the safest, most stable and practical garden ladder available, especially on uneven or soft ground. As your weight is directed downwards & outwards, pinning the ladder to the ground, there is none of the wobble associated with a normal step ladder, where all 4 legs need to be on firm solid ground. The safe working load is 15¾ stone (100kg).
The telescopic back leg can be adjusted up to 2 ft (60cm) in 6"(15cm) steps, using the pin supplied (see picture below), to compensate for changes in ground level.
Depending on the lay of the land, you can either work face-on, sideways with the ladder parallel to the tree, or with the 3rd leg positioned into a hedge or tree allowing access into the tree crown.
Alex from Devon says 'This is the first year I have not been left dangling from a high branch as my ladder fell over. The tripod ladder is as steady as a rock, even on our uneven ground and it's easy to carry the 10ft ladder with one hand.'
